“Alzheimer’s Disease affects an estimated 5.4 million Americans of all ages; 1 in 8 older Americans has Alzheimer’s disease. It is the sixth-leading cause of death across all ages in the United States.”
These statistics are growing at an alarming rate as the baby boomer population ages. In addition to the physical and emotional costs that Alzheimer’s suffers and their families face, the costs of Alzheimer’s care and services will continue to increase.
Throughout the month of December, PRORehab employees promoted awareness of this debilitating disease by donating $1,136.00 to the Alzheimer’s Association. This organization is the leading health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, while providing and enhancing care and support for all that are affected. PRORehab’s donation will accelerate research for a cure and fund programs and services for people living with Alzheimer’s. Research continues to advance and the Alzheimer’s Association has made much progress in 2011 toward earlier detection of the disease.
“These advances are critical to helping people live longer, healthy lives free of the disability and death caused by Alzheimer’s. Identifying the disease early in its process – even before symptoms start to become evident – and treating it early is how we will accomplish that. Therefore, what’s really important is for everyone to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.” says William Thies, PhD, Alzheimer’s Association Chief Medical and Scientific Officer.
